Om maleriet
The Harvesters is an oil painting on wood completed by the Netherlandish Renaissance artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1565. It depicts the harvest time set in a landscape, in the months of July and August or late summer. Nicolaes Jonghelinck, a merchant banker and art collector from Antwerp, commissioned this painting as part of a cycle of six paintings depicting various seasonal transitions during the year.

Marries Mayken Coecke and moves to Brussels
He moved from Antwerp to Brussels and married Mayken Coecke, daughter of Pieter Coecke van Aelst and Mayken Verhulst: the deposition for the marriage was registered on 25 July 1563 and the wedding took place in the Chapel Church in Brussels. According to van Mander, his mother-in-law pressed for the move to distance him from his long-standing mistress, a servant girl.
