Portsmouth Dockyard is an oil painting on canvas by French artist James Tissot, from 1877. It is a reworking of his 1876 painting On The Thames, which also depicts a man and two women in a boat.

In 1876 Kathleen gave birth to a son, Cecil George Newton, who is believed to be Tissot's.

Kathleen moves in with Tissot
In 1877 Kathleen Newton moved into Tissot's house. His Catholic faith did not recognise her divorce, but they lived openly as husband and wife (the servants called her “Madame Tissot”), and Tissot later called these years the happiest of his life: he could be a family man, and her children often visited.
