Early graphics: texture, perspective, shadow and light
Vasarely experiments with textural effects, perspective, shadow and light; “Chess Board” (1935) and “Zebras” (1937) belong to these years, and during the 1930s, as a graphic designer and poster artist, he combines patterns and organic images.
1930–1935
A draughtsman in Paris advertising agencies
Vasarely works as a graphic artist and creative consultant at the advertising agencies Havas, Draeger and Devambez (other accounts extend this work to 1940); his contacts with other artists are limited, and he thinks of opening an institution modelled on Bortnyik's Műhely, developing teaching material for it.
