Watercolour by Peter Rice, showing the exterior of the Nottingham Playhouse, 1984. Presented to the artistic director, Richard Digby Day, by the staff and company of the Playhouse.
This image of the Nottingham Playhouse, painted by stage designer Peter Rice (1928-2015), was a gift to Richard Digby Day on his departure from the Playhouse where he had worked as artistic director from 1980 to 1983. He had begun his career at the Playhouse in 1964, working as assistant to the then artistic director Frank Dunlop. The theatre, designed by Peter Moro (1911-1998), had opened the previous year.
