    Moves to Bologna

    In 1547 Niccolò moves to Bologna, where he will stay until 1552. Exposure to Correggio and Parmigianino changes his style: he paints elaborate landscapes and aristocratic scenes of hunting and courtly love, often paralleled in mythological narratives.

    A sonnet compares him to Raphael and Titian

    In Bologna Niccolò is celebrated in a sonnet that compares him, among others, to Raphael and Titian.

  4. 1552

    Moves to France on Primaticcio’s recommendation

    In 1552 Niccolò arrives in France on the recommendation of Francesco Primaticcio, presented to King Henry II, and joins the team decorating the royal Château de Fontainebleau under Primaticcio’s direction. He stays in France for the rest of his life and becomes one of the creators of the School of Fontainebleau.
