Annunciation is an oil on canvas painting by Guido Reni, commissioned by Marie de' Medici and probably painted in early 1629. The first large painting by the artist to reach France, it is now Inventory Number 521 in the Louvre Museum, displayed on the first floor in Room 12 of the Grande Galerie. Reni also produced an earlier and less-worked-up version of the work in 1621 for the church of San Pietro in Valle, Fano which is now in that town's art gallery.

A visit from Prince Władysław Sigismund Vasa of Poland
During his tour of Western Europe Prince Władysław Sigismund Vasa of Poland visits Reni's workshop in Bologna; a close rapport grows between painter and prince, and drawings and paintings are acquired.

The late years: debts and hurried work
By the 1630s Reni's style becomes looser: the paint is less thickly applied and the colours lighter. A compulsive gambler, he was often short of money and, according to his biographer Malvasia, hurried his work and let his workshop produce many copies; the paintings of his last years include many unfinished works.
