In 2002 the Fundación Cristóbal Gabarrón conferred its annual international art award on Rosenquist in recognition of his contribution to universal culture.
2003
Full-career retrospective at the Guggenheim
In 2003 the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum organised a full-career retrospective of Rosenquist’s work, curated by Walter Hopps and Sarah Bancroft, which then travelled internationally.
2009
His autobiography is published
In 2009 Rosenquist’s autobiography, “Painting Below Zero: Notes on a Life in Art”, was published.
April 2009
A fire destroys his house, studios and warehouse
In April 2009 a fire swept through Hernando County, Florida, where Rosenquist had lived for 30 years, and burned his house, studios and warehouse; all the paintings stored on the property were destroyed, including works for an upcoming show.
May 2014
“Be Beautiful” sells for $3.3 million
In May 2014 Rosenquist’s painting “Be Beautiful” (1964) was sold at Sotheby’s for $3,301,000, the highest price paid for one of his paintings.
