Is brought to Rome to study law but chooses art
At just eleven, Federico is brought to Rome by his parents to study law, but he prefers a career in art; he trains and works in the workshop of his elder brother Taddeo, a successful painter in Rome, quickly joins his team and assists with the workshop’s commissions.

His brother Taddeo dies suddenly
His brother Taddeo dies suddenly, aged 37; Federico takes over all of his ongoing commissions, which keep him busy for many years, including extensive work on the fresco decorations at the Villa Farnese at Caprarola.

Dispute with Cardinal Farnese: dismissed from Caprarola
Over a dispute about payments, Cardinal Farnese sends Zuccaro away from Caprarola, where he is replaced by Jacopo Bertoia of Parma. In the same year, with Taddeo’s team of assistants dispersed, Federico begins to work mostly for the free market.

First president of the Accademia di San Luca
In Rome Zuccaro obtains a charter confirmed by Pope Sixtus V; in 1595 the Accademia di San Luca is established, and he becomes its first president.

Publishes “L’idea de’ Pittori, Scultori, ed Architetti”
In his book L’idea de’ Pittori, Scultori, ed Architetti Zuccaro sets out a complex theoretical exposition on the idea of design. He also published other books on art theory and art history.
