    Years in London

    In 1836 Jacque left for England and remained in London until 1838. There he created a series of woodcuts for an edition of Shakespeare, illustrated Picturesque Greece, and drew for English magazines.

  2. c. 1841

    Beginning of His Career as an Etcher

    Around 1841 Jacque began his career as an etcher, publishing a series of etchings with Louis Marvy; there followed prints after the works of Adriaen van Ostade and original plates.

  3. from 1845

    Trips to Barbizon with Millet

    From 1845 Jacque, together with Jean-François Millet, frequently visited the small town of Barbizon.

  4. 1849

    Move to Barbizon

    Fleeing the cholera epidemic that had struck Paris, Jacque settled in Barbizon in August 1849 together with Millet and Théodore Rousseau. There he painted shepherds, sheep, and scenes of peasant life.

  5. 1871

    Death of His Son During the Paris Commune

    During the Commune, Jacque's son Lucien, who served in the National Guard, was shot by regular troops on the Place de Clichy. The artist never recovered from this misfortune.
