After 1650 Poussin’s health declined and a tremor in his hand grew worse — evidence of it is visible in his late drawings.

Fouquet secures recognition of his title of First Painter
In 1655 the Abbé Louis Fouquet, brother of the Superintendent of Finances Nicolas Fouquet, obtained for Poussin official recognition of his earlier title of First Painter to the King, together with payment for his past French commissions; to thank him, Poussin made designs for the baths at Vaux-le-Vicomte.

In 1664 Poussin’s wife Anne-Marie died, and after that his own health sank rapidly.
