Om maleriet
Uttam Chitrakar references both old and new traditions in his Kalighat paintings, taking inspiration from religious subject matter. This figure of Durga recalls those of Indian artist Jamini Roy. The facial features are highly stylised and symmetrical, while the shapes of the lion and water-buffalo are created from minimal bold lines.
