Greyscale watercolour illustration created for publication in an illustrated newspaper or magazine. The illustration is captioned 'Pageant, "Sons of the Empire"' and shows 'The Entry of the "Bluejackets" with the Union Jack' during the Military Tournament at the Royal Agricultural Hall, Islington.
It was drawn by the artist Samuel Begg in 1896 and has been signed by him in the bottom left hand corner.
This item is one of several theatrical drawings from a collection of sketches commissioned from contemporary artists to be printed in illustrated magazines. The collection was donated to the museum by Sir William James Ingram in 1914.
