This drawing records several of the variations on classical architecture used by architects working in the Mannerist style: the curved (segmental) pediments, rough (rusticated) stonework, and curling brackets or consoles are particularly characteristic of the style. The windows of the Palazzo Farnese in Rome, designed by Michelangelo, are especially important examples of the style.
