Samuel F. B. Morse, one of his art pupils, accompanies him to Europe.

Settles in London
After travelling throughout western Europe he finally settles in London, where his pictures win him fame and prizes.

Publishes “The Sylphs of the Seasons”
In London he publishes “The Sylphs of the Seasons, with Other Poems”; the book is republished in Boston later that year.

Death of his wife, Ann Channing
His wife dies, leaving him saddened, lonely and homesick for America.
