A patent for the method of “plastic units”
On 2 March 1959 Vasarely patents his method of “unités plastiques”: geometric forms are cut out of a coloured square and rearranged, using a strictly defined palette of colours and forms.

Exhibition: Documenta II

Finally settles in Annet-sur-Marne
In 1961 Vasarely moves from Arcueil, the Paris suburb where he opened an atelier after the Second World War, and finally settles in Annet-sur-Marne in the Seine-et-Marne département.
1963
“Folklore planétaire”: the palette goes public
In 1963 Vasarely presents his palette to the public under the name “Folklore planétaire”; out of this plastic alphabet grows serial art, an endless permutation of forms and colours worked out by his assistants.
