Om skulpturen

The original plaster model for this black basalt bust was supplied by Hoskins and Grant; the model was finished for production by Hackwood in c.1774.

The bust depicts Homer visualised with the traditional beard and band tying his hair. The Greek poet is credited as the author of the two epic poems the Iliad and the Odyssey.

The interest in Homer's work and other examples of classical culture was high during the 18th century and Wedgwood catered to this market with producing this bust.
