Imens i livet hos Edward Hopper

Hele livet
  1. 1937–1938

Vermont: watercolours on the White River

In the summers of 1937 and 1938 the couple spends extended sojourns at Wagon Wheels Farm in South Royalton, Vermont, where Hopper paints a series of watercolours along the White River, mostly “pure” landscapes without architecture or human figures; the best known is “First Branch of the White River” (1938).

  2. late 1940s

    A creative crisis

In the late 1940s Hopper suffers a period of relative inactivity: he admits that he wishes he could paint more and is sick of reading and going to the movies.

  3. 1950s and 1960s

    Prostate surgeries and failing health

Over the next two decades Hopper's health falters, with several prostate surgeries and other medical problems, but in the 1950s and early 1960s he still creates several more major works.
