1950s–1970s
Becomes an active printmaker
While living in France she works in the ateliers of Georges Visat and Pierre Chave and makes work for limited-edition artists’ books by such poets as Alain Bosquet, René Crevel, Lena Leclerq and André Pieyre de Mandiargues.
1969–1973
A five-year adventure in soft sculpture
By the late 1960s her paintings are almost completely abstract yet still suggestive of the female form; from 1969 to 1973 she devotes herself to three-dimensional works in fabric, seeing in soft sculpture cloth as a material for high purpose and softness over hardness.

The book “En chair et en or” with her poems
The limited-edition book En chair et en or appears, with Tanning’s etchings accompanied by her own original poems.
1974
Retrospective in Paris
A major retrospective of her work is held at the Centre National d’Art Contemporain, which became the Centre Georges Pompidou in 1977.
