Imens i livet hos Aldo Rossi
Hele livet1965–1985
In the “metaphysical” group La Tendenza
Seeing himself as a follower of the neoclassical school and of Giorgio de Chirico's “metaphysical painting”, Rossi belonged to the La Tendenza group in northern Italy; against utilitarianism and functionalism he set an architecture bound to a shared cultural foundation — a method sometimes called “metaphysical neoclassicism”.
1971–1975
Suspended from teaching, he takes a chair in Zurich
Suspended from teaching in Italy in those politically troubled times, Rossi moved to ETH Zurich, where he held the chair of architectural design.
1975
Returns to teaching in Venice
Rossi returned to teaching in Italy, taking architectural composition in Venice. The same year his second book appeared, “Selected Writings on Architecture and the City, 1956–1972”.
1979 · Karriere
the Academy of Saint Luke; recognition in the US
Rossi was elected to the prestigious Academy of Saint Luke. Meanwhile international interest in him grew: he taught at American universities, among them Cooper Union and Cornell, and at Cornell took part in the joint venture of the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies with New York's Museum of Modern Art, travelling to China and Hong Kong and attending conferences in South America.
