A Doctor or Jurist

This is a bronze bust, formerly thought to be probably made by Danese Cattaneo in the middle of the 16th century Italy in Venice. The bust represents a doctor or jurist. The sitter, who has a long forked beard, is represented frontally, with the head turned slightly to the left. He wears a mantle turned back across the shoulders over a closely fitting robe with a high collar, and a flat, four-cornered hat. This bust is tapered down from a point below the shoulders to a base with a scrolled label.
