Om værket
Lewis, inspired by the work of the Scottish painter David Wilkie, toured Scotland with his friends, the artists George Cattermole and William Evans, from about the end of 1830 until 1832. There he painted a series of picturesque watercolours of the interiors of cottages. There was a fashion for views of the quaint interiors of such dwellings, and Lewis sold several examples.
