O obrazu
Paul Cézanne based The Bather, painted around 1885 and now in the Museum of Modern Art, New York, on a studio photograph. He placed the photographed man outdoors, hands at his hips, gaze lowered and one foot advanced. A dark contour separates the body from its surroundings, although similar colors and brushstrokes connect them. The canvas stands 127 centimetres high.

Death of His Father and Inheritance
After the death of Louis-Auguste, Cézanne, together with his mother and sisters, inherited his fortune, including the Jas de Bouffan; the artist's financial situation eased considerably ("he left me an income of 25,000 francs").
