O obrazu
Michael Goldberg’s Split Level, painted in 1958 and now in the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, forms part of his House series of 1957–60. Dense brushstrokes gather within and around a dark rectangle. Although architecture prompted the painting, it records Goldberg’s instinctive feelings rather than presenting a defined image of a particular building.
Slovy muzea
Split Level belongs to the House series of paintings Goldberg created during 1957–60, in which densely robust brushwork coalesces into and around a dark rectangular form. Despite its architectural inspiration, the painting is fundamentally a record of the artist’s instinctive feelings rather than a specific image.
