O díle
Two shades of brown define Escher's face in his 1918 Self-Portrait, a linocut at Washington's National Gallery of Art. Each shade was printed from its own block onto brown wove paper. The head and neck stand alone against an empty background. The plate measures 14.3 by 11.3 centimetres, and a pencil signature sits at the lower right.
