O soše
Francis van Bossuit carved Mars around 1682–1692 for Petronella de la Court; the ivory figure is at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Its gentle curve retains the arc of the elephant tusk that supplied the material. De la Court, married to an Amsterdam merchant, was Van Bossuit's principal patron and ordered many of his ivory carvings. She placed this figure at the centre of her art cabinet together with a Venus carved in the same material. The figure of Venus is now lost.
Slovy muzea
Van Bossuit carved a large number of ivories for his most important patron, Petronella de la Court, wife of an Amsterdam merchant. His impressive figure of Mars formed the centrepiece in her cabinet of art, together with an ivory Venus that has not survived. The slightly curving form of Mars follows the arc of the elephant tusk from which Bossuit carved this figure.
