Laurent de La Hyre painted The Assumption in 1635 for the high altar of the Capuchin church on Paris's rue Saint-Honoré; it is now in the Louvre in the same city. The canvas rises 4.25 metres. In its original setting, a painting of Christ carrying his cross in heaven stood above it. That upper picture is now lost.
