V životě: Josef Albers
Celý životopis1920s
From Expressionism to geometry: glass “diaphanies”
Under the influence of Bauhaus Constructivism, with László Moholy-Nagy among his chief mentors, Albers moved to a far stricter geometric abstraction and took up “diaphanies” — transparent compositions on glass made with a sandblaster.
1923
Gropius entrusts him with the Bauhaus preliminary course
Walter Gropius, the Bauhaus's founder and director, asked Albers to teach the preliminary course “Werklehre”, introducing newcomers to the principles of handicraft, since Albers came from that background and had the practice and knowledge.
1925
Bauhaus professor in Dessau
In 1925, the year the Bauhaus moved to Dessau, Albers was made a professor. He designed furniture, worked with glass and taught alongside Oskar Schlemmer, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee; with Klee, the “form master” of the glass workshops where Albers was the “crafts master”, he cooperated for several years.

Designs a stencil typeface
Albers experimented with geometrically constructed stencil letters for posters and signs; the display typeface Architype Albers was later based on them.
