O soše

A silver-inlaid headband marks the naked figure in Athlete or Apollo, probably made in 100–1 BC and now in the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland. Cast in solid bronze, the statuette has lost its right arm above the elbow. The missing objects leave its identity uncertain. Apollo might have carried archery equipment; an athlete could instead have held sporting gear, a victory emblem or a bowl for offerings. The youthful body alone does not distinguish the human competitor from the god. On view in gallery 102C.

Slovy muzea

This bronze statuette depicts a nude male, perhaps a young athlete or the youthful god Apollo. The figure is made from solid bronze, with a fillet of inlaid silver on his head. The figure’s right arm is broken off just above the elbow. If this is a statue of Apollo, he may have once held a bow and arrow; if it depicts an athlete, he could have held athletic equipment, a symbol of victory, or an offering dish.
